Did Vista SP1 come preinstalled on the machine or did you install SP1 manually (i.e., not via Windows Update)? If the former, SP1 no-charge support is not available to you. However, no-charge support for security updates would be available to you (though they might “bounce” you back to the computer manufacturer)

If Last Known Good doesn’t work either, you’re definitely looking at a Repair (AKA in-place upgrade). NB: It is not a good idea to install Vista SP1 manually unless and until it’s offered by Windows Update. Good luck.
