As part of this month’s security bulletin release process, we will issue eight security bulletins – five rated ‘Critical,’ two rated ‘Important,’ and one rated ‘Moderate.’ These bulletins address vulnerabilities in Microsoft Windows, …
We often get questions about when the support End of Life (EOL) is for a particular piece of software so I thought I’d mention some of the important dates for WSUS in case you were still running any of the older versions. WSUS 2.0 RTM support has already ended. WSUS 2.0 SP1 support ends at the end of the month in April 2009 (two years after WSUS 3.0 was released). Yes, that’s this month so if you’re still on WSUS 2.0 SP1 then you need to start thinking about an upgrade.
Hello luc, I suggest that you use WSUS in your network, it’s free and works fine, for most MS software: [link] Best regards Meinolf Weber Disclaimer: This posting is provided “AS IS” with no warranties, and confers no rights. ** Please do NOT email, only reply to Newsgroups

Nope, re-reading the post, its probably unlikely
We have several Windows XP SP2 workstation that have application installed that need certain SQL updates according with Windows Updates and WSUS, but they ALWAYS fail on every machine.

Hello Killswitchkiller, Check out WSUS for windows updates, its free: [link] For Adobe you can use GPO to assign .msi software packages to workstations. For AntiVirus you have to check the vendors website how youhave to handle it
Here’s an interesting resolution I came across the other day that I thought might help some of you in case you run into the same thing. My customer was running Windows 2003 Server and after an upgrade from WSUS 2.0 to WSU 3.0, when they tried to approve an update in the WSUS 3.0 console it would hang and an hourglass would appear. Even after waiting for a while it was still just hung there with the hourglass. We checked the version of the MMC being used and found that it was 5.2.3790.3959 so we tried installing KB942213 and sure enough it resolved the issue. This KB is titled The MMC.exe program randomly becomes unresponsive when the user clicks OK or Cancel several times to close a Windows form in Windows Server 2003 and the reason I’m mentioning it here is because the article doesn’t specifically mention WSUS so if you’re using that as a search term you may not see it. And to add to that, we also had to give Full Control for the NetworkService account in: - C:WINDOWSrepair - C:WINDOWSMicrosoft.NETFrameworkv2.0.50727CONFIG - C:WINDOWSMicrosoft.NETFrameworkv2.0.50727Temporary ASP.NET Files If you run into an issue where the MMC just seems to hang for no reason then you might give this a try.
