Great hagel! And in the process non of the questions have been awnsered in any reasanable way.
The only way you could tell which update is causing this issue is by installing them one at a time or, install them all at once and remove one at a time. If you find that one of the *Security* updates has caused an issue, Microsoft will provide * no-charge support *

Dear all, I use VMPlayer with two Windows Server 2008 R2 VMs. Using Windows Update within the VMs is extremely slow when downloading the updates. For example, one small [less than 1 MB] update can take 2-3 hours to download! Downloading the updates manually within the VMs is fine (takes a few seconds).
This failed repeatedly by Automatic Updates. I contacted tech support – not helpful
