I knew it was comming!!!
Sounds like you have made up your mind, but I wanted to throw a few things out for you to consider in the future. Use Evolution to access email - I use it currently, although it takes some tricking to get get it to interact with Exch ‘07 - Exch ‘03 is still compatible. Setting it up is really no harder (to me) than configuring Thunderbird or Outlook Express and it better integrates calendaring, PIM, etc.
Not sure of your environment, but me and my co-workers have found that standard pre-built images / installers are the best way to handle environment changes. Once you run the test environment past a few key people, block off some time to build a standardized image (about 40 hrs. for us involving about 200 custom apps. and all relevant patches per model of computer) and then use your Windows server to auto-deploy the image or a product like Ghost/Live Image to push to multiple machines.
Again - not sure of your environment, but it could be worse… You could be doing a feasibility study onradically altering every part of the end-user experience, from the hardware up…
Good luck. Michael Haworth — Questions and Answers — Reply
