[Judging from other posts similar to yours in this newsgroup, you may end up finding that the machine is infected with Vundo, ZLOB and an SDBot-variant, all protected by a rootkit. Chances are that Avast isn't working properly either.] Did you install Vista SP1 via Windows Update or manually? Was Avast running in the background when you installed Vista SP1?
