svchost.exe memory usage during network scan

Posted on Wednesday, 19 November 2008No Comment

I noticed that during network scan (With Both 3.2 and 3.5 beta I) the process “svchost.exe” (*) hogs up a lot of memory (867,724 KB physical, 811,564 virtual), then as soon as the scan ends, the memory usage goes back to normal (11,976 KB physical, 14,588 KB virtual).
(*): The process refers to the following services: [AudioSrv], Browser, CryptSvc, Dhcp, dmserver, EventSystem, helpsvc, lanmanserver, lanmanworkstation, Netman, Nla, RasMan, [Schedule], seclogon, SENS, ShellHWDetection, TapiSrv, winmgmt, [wuauserv].
I already tried stopping the services within square brackets, but i’m afraid that the issue is related to Nla or Browser… I’ll try to do more tests tomorrow…
I found a thread talking about a bug in svchost.exe, but doesn’t tell the patch needed. I’ll try to search more…

EDIT : Sorry, forgot to mention that the PC is running XP SP3+ all patches up to today. There also are the “VMWare Player” network services… Luca Nonato — Questions and Answers — Reply
