What should be included in a "Network and Systems" audit?

Posted on Tuesday, 14 October 2008No Comment

So, we were talking the other day at work about a new task management want’s from IT, but they weren’t too specific about the details. In a nutshell, the company would like quarterly “Systems and Network” audits. Things to include in the audit were:
* Desktops (make, model, disk sizes, and RAM)
* Laptops (make, model, disk sizes, and RAM)
* Servers (make, model, disk sizes, and RAM)
* Printers (make, model, and page counts)
* Routers and switches (make and model)
* Microsoft OS and application licenses (available and in use)
* Storage space (total, available, and in use)
* Major applications installed (SQL, email, finance, etc)
* Outside bandwidth available
* Backup status (last successful, retention period, DR status, testing results)
* Anti-virus (# of protected/unprotected systems, current DAT ver)
* Microsoft patches for OS and apps (critical and security)
Any thoughts on these items? What do you do at your company? What else could (should) be included?
