NB: We’re only going to deal with the critical security updates in this thread. Is your OneCare subscription current? Repost: Norton or McAfee application ever been installed on this machine (e.g., a free-trial version that came preinstalled when you bought it)

Did you install SP2 manually or via Windows Update? Was your anti-virus application, any third-party security applications, and/or a third-party firewall running in the background when you installed SP2 (and/or IE8, if you installed it, too)?

Unable to install Windows XP SP3, Win Installer 3.1 or 4.5

After reinstalling XP SP2 from CD to resolve logon issues, Windows updated all updates to Jan 09. But now I need to update the Windows Installer from 3.0 to 3.1 0r the latest 4.5 I receive this error “Error Code: 0×80070005 “.
