the page failed to load error

Using Vista Home Premium 32 bit with SP2 all updated. Running avast anti virus, comodo firefirewall, Spybot, ad-Aware, Super anti spyware all up to date. Everytime I open the control panel and click on Windows Update I get a blank page with the message: the page failed to load
